Summary of Interview 081208A with Nyamaa


Yondongiin Nyamaa was born in 1954 into a herder’s family of Uvs aimag. Until the age of eight he was raised with the livestock, then he went to the school and he acquired a complete secondary education. After completing the eighth grade he tended livestock for 2-3 years and then he was called to serve in the army. When he was in the army, the term of service was three years. He served in the railway military, which is why he served in between Darhan and Erdenet cities and he built a railway between these two cities.


After demobilization he came to his homeland and was working as a postman. In 1978 he went to Selenge aimag and attended the tractor driving course. After that he went back to his homeland and worked as an irrigator at a farm and he worked there for ten years. While he worked there he became an aimag champion [of wrestling] and he was awarded with a right to tour the Russian Federation. The farm he worked at cultivated cattle fodder on 2100 hectares and it was a big farm with many workers. It was established in 1979 and it operated till 1989. With the rise of the democratic movement the society changed and the work stopped. The equipment and technology has been stolen.
